Pastor’s Message/Worship Resources: August 9, 2020

Welcome to Church Online

A multitude of thanks goes out to Pastor Dawn Nelson of Lord of All Lutheran Church in Strathmore (and whoever is responsible for the technical aspect of getting her message online) for sharing God’s Word with us today while Pastor Jonny is away. Your time, effort and willingness to share with us is sincerely appreciated. Pastor Dawn’s message is being shared with several area congregations today – we are indeed one in the Spirit!

As we continue to worship apart, we can take comfort knowing that our Saviour invites us to come to Him with all of our burdens and He will help us find rest. Our service is online each week, with music, God’s Word, messages of hope, prayers for the people, and blessings to take into your week. At least for now, this is where we continue to be. We hope you will join us here as we await the time when we will be able to gather together for worship and fellowship once again. But for now, keep safe and know that our God is constant.

7th Sunday after Pentecost: Teach Me Your Way O Lord

Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his faithful, to those who turn to him in their hearts.   – Psalm 85:8

I apologize that I haven’t been able to update the music selections this week – the Lord has led me on a path that leaves me with far less time to tinker with the church web posts right now. The ones that are in this post are a couple of favourites – take time to enjoy them again! Thanks for your understanding. Heather S., Website Manager

The Goodness of God

From the Psalms: Listen carefully...

Prayer of the Day:

Let us pray…   O God our defender, storms rage around and within us and cause us to be afraid. Rescue your people from despair, deliver your sons and daughters from fear, and preserve us in the faith of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.Amen.

Praise with Music: Raise a Hallelujah

Children's Worship: For the young & the young at heart

Below is a YouTube link to a children’s lesson based on today’s Gospel lesson about Peter walking on water. There is also a  colouring page – right click to view full size and print.

The Word: Today's Scripture Lessons

God of awe, from whom we flee in holy terror:
your silence burns like ice; your whisper cuts through fear; we long to hear your faithful word of righteousness and peace. Bless us with bold belief even in the darkness of the night and the assault of life’s storms, that we may be messengers of your justice, in the name of the One whom wind and wave obey. Amen.

Clicking on the Scripture links will take you to the Revised Common Lectionary at the Vanderbilt Divinity Library where you can read the lessons.

Loving God, open our ears to hear your word and draw us closer to you, that the whole world may be one with you as you are one with us in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Guest Pastor Message: Pastor Dawn Nelson - Lord of All Lutheran Church, Strathmore, Alberta

Below you will find a YouTube link to Pastor Dawn’s service & message for August 9th.  A PDF transcript of the message will also be available below. We appreciate the help of our fellow NALC pastors and congregations as they share God’s word through their weekly messages while Pastor Jonny enjoys some renewal time.

We would like to offer our thanks to Pastor Dawn and Lord of All Lutheran for making this message available to our congregation today. Blessings to all! Praise be to God for His indescribable gifts!

Prayers of the People / Lord's Prayer

God of mercy and healing, you who hear the cries of those in need,
receive these petitions of your people that all who are troubled

The Lord’s Prayer: Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen

Life-giving God, heal our lives, that we may acknowledge your wonderful deeds and offer you thanks from generation to generation through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Blessing...

Go in Peace, Serve the Lord. Thanks be to God!
